Hello from the Village of Seneca!
Spring is just around the corner and many volunteers are currently working behind the scenes on various events within our community.
Please be sure to mark your calendar for the Seneca American Legion Memorial Day Ceremony on May 31, 2010 from 10:30am to noon at the Veterans Memorial Wall across from the Seneca Library. The organization is known for its philantropic work both locally and nationally. The Seneca Kasal Post 457 not only conducts services at graveside of veterans; flag folding or full military rites, provides firing squad personnel to assist neighboring posts, and provides resources and information for local veterans. Thank you to the members of the Seneca Kasal Post 457 who come together to make a difference in our community.
The 2010 Seneca Shipyard Festival has been set for June 16th through the 19th. Many events will produce success for this festival including the June 16th Bean Bag Tournament, the "Taste of Seneca" food vendor area, multiple local band entertainment, carnival and much more! The Village Council proudly supports the festival committee's goals and appreciates their dedication in making the yearly festival something to be proud of.
On behalf of the Village Council, I'd like to acknowledge the volunteers who are coordinating the 2010 Seneca Cruise Night. This yearly event will mark its 3rd anniversary and will be held on August 28, 2010. Please plan to attend; and spread the word to all the car, truck and antique tractor enthusiasts in your life.
The Seneca Park Board is currently working together on various events including the 2010 Farmer's Market, community bus trips and the re-opening of the Ray Clark Memorial Swimming Pool. Please contact the Seneca Village Hall if you have any questions on the upcoming Park Board activities.
Our community boasts many amenities to offer an enjoyable visit; the Seneca Boat Launch, Illinois River fun, Ray Clark Memorial Pool as well as Seneca's Crotty Park. To make these amentities possible, various volunteers worked together with a common goal in mind. It has been said that it takes many hands to make light work; I am proud to be Mayor of a Village that is filled with people who work together to make Seneca the special community it has become. The Village Council looks forward to seeing our Village prosper for many years to come...
Sincerely,
David Spicer, Mayor
